Happy Independents Month!
With July quickly coming to an end, it's fitting to honor Independents Month by shining a light on the businesses that help “Keep Louisville Weird”. Independents Month is a national movement that encourages consumers to shop local and celebrate independent businesses, creating more sustainable cities and towns. A community benefits financially with the jobs created and dollars re-spent within that community. These small enterprises are the backbone of our communities, and they should be celebrated and supported beyond Independents Month. By patronizing these businesses regularly, you can help create a vibrant and sustainable local economy. Here are a few easy ways you can show your support of independent businesses year around:
Shop Local, Shop Small: Make a conscious effort to shop at independent businesses. Whether it's the local bookstore, farmer's market, boutique, or coffee shop, spending your money locally helps these businesses thrive.
Spread the Word: Word-of-mouth is a powerful tool. If you have a positive experience with an independent business, share it with your friends, family, and social media followers. Your recommendation could lead to new customers for them.
Participate in Local Community Events: Attend events organized by local businesses or community associations. Festivals, markets, workshops, and charity events not only support these businesses but also help create a stronger sense of community.
Support Crowdfunding Campaigns: Many independent businesses turn to crowdfunding platforms to launch new products or expand their services or products. Contributing to these campaigns can be a great way to be a part of their early growth.
Become a Member of the Louisville Independent Business Alliance: We have been proud members of the Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) since 2012. LIBA works to preserve the unique character of Louisville by promoting locally-owned, independent businesses and educating the community on the value of buying local. By becoming a member of LIBA you are contributing to the growth and preservation of Louisville's independent businesses.
Of course there are more ways to support independent businesses, and we'd love to hear from you. Click below to let us know.
With July being Independents Month, the time is ripe to explore how small independents are reclaiming their status as a major competitive force, and as crucial components of a thriving community!
